II. Shield

Our school shield pulls together and presents many important elements of our program and purpose. The shield design itself reminds us of soldiers in battle, who used shields both for protection and for identification. The bold colors and symbols identify us as soldiers of Christ, striving in his name and under his protection for truth, goodness, and beauty.

The black half with the cross comes from the emblem for Saint Augustine and represents Christ’s victory over sin and death. Christ is the light that shines in the darkness. The cross points us toward Christ’s sacrifice for us, and so it signifies God’s love for us and our call in return to offer ourselves to him in love.

Red is the color of the Anglican Province of Christ the King, of which Christ Anglican Church is a member, and symbolizes the ardent fire of the Holy Spirit and the blood of the martyrs. The open book represents the scripture, Augustine’s writings, and all learning. The heart represents the love of God and neighbor, the love of learning, and the inner person, the soul and will. These symbols are all in gold for their value
