II. Worldview

When we say that we understand every aspect of our program from the Christian perspective, we are saying that we have a Christian worldview. We view the world and our place and role within it through Christian eyes. The underlying assumptions and basic convictions that shape our interpretation of the world are Christian. For example, we believe that God created everything out of nothing, and so we see the world as dependent on God and as reflecting his nature.

At Saint Augustine’s Academy, we know and articulate our worldview. There are no hidden agendas or presuppositions. When a child or parent asks why we do or learn something, or what something means, we straightforwardly answer the question. And the final answer, just as the first cause, for all that we undertake is God himself. Our goal is not only to raise our children in knowledge and virtue, but also and most importantly, to pass on the Christian worldview, the Christian humanism at the heart of Western civilization.

Our entire program is integrated by this worldview, which is therefore reinforced in every way. The curriculum, for example, is tied together by the ultimate unity of all knowledge in God. Every subject is taught as part of a whole and not as some discrete and isolated block of material that has no relation to or bearing on anything else. The essential correspondence between and among subjects is evident when they are considered in the light of God. Science and Math have to do with Creation itself, Language and Literature with Scripture, Philosophy and Art with Humankind, and History with God’s Providence.
