IV. Daily Chapel

Daily chapel is an integral part of Saint Augustine’s Academy. We begin each morning by giving thanks and praise to God, the source of life and author of truth, and by asking for his guidance and inspiration for the day ahead. This daily discipline builds up the life of virtue in every member of the community and serves to unite the school into one body and purpose. Parents also are always welcome to join us.

Chapel gathers the school together in the sacred space that is set aside for the worship of God. The building itself nurtures the contemplation and quiet introspection that are critical for the life of the spirit. The program includes music and singing, scripture reading, corporate prayer, talks, announcements, and special ceremonies for the observance of major events and holidays. All the children are expected to participate by following along attentively, by standing, sitting, and kneeling as appropriate, and by singing the songs and saying the words of the prayers. No one is required to participate in a sacramental act such as receiving communion.

In chapel and throughout the school, prayer will be offered in the name of Jesus Christ. As the scripture teaches, he is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father but by him. We have been given this name by God for our prayers, and this is the name that defines us as a school. Please pray for the school, for our board, faculty, and staff, and for the children especially, that we would give glory to the name of Jesus Christ.
